Bodyguard (original title: The Bodyguard ) is a musical by Alexander Dinelaris (text) based on the 1992 film Bodyguard . The musical premiered on December 5, 2012 at London's Adelphi Theater and was later re-performed during touring in the UK and subsequently in Utrecht . The German-language performance started on November 21, 2015 in the Musical Dome Cologne.

Rachel Marron is a world famous singer and lives the life of a superstar. However, a stalker comes into Rachel's life and he receives letters from him with death threats. When he breaks into her villa, the stalker becomes a danger to her and her family. Her son Fletcher is particularly worried about his mother. Therefore, her management hires the former secret agent Frank Farmer as a bodyguard, who is supposed to protect Rachel. At first, the relationship between the two of them is tense because Rachel has little to do with the strict security precautions and defies his rules, but gradually the two develop feelings for each other. When Rachel performs and sings at the Oscars, her stalker shoots her, but Frank throws himself in front of Rachel to catch the bullet.

The soundtrack of the film Bodyguard was one of the most successful ever and sold over 44 million copies. Producer David Ian received the performing rights from Kevin Costner , one of the movie's producers, and Lawrence Kasdan , the movie's scriptwriter. Alexander Dinalaris , who later received an Oscar for his script for the film Birdman , was entrusted with the script adaptation.

German premiere in Cologne
The German BB Group GmbH secured the rights to a German-language performance of the material early on and contributed to the production costs of the London performance of the piece. In October 2015 it was announced that Patricia Meeden would play the lead role of Rachel Marron. The role of her bodyguard Frank Farmer was filled with Jürgen Fischer. The German-language premiere of Bodyguard premiered on November 21, 2015. The German translation was done by Tobias Rohe .
