The British Biathlon Union (BBU) is the British national association responsible for the sport of biathlon .

Association

The British Biathlon Union was founded in 1996 and is led by a President whose position has been vacant since January 1st, 2009. Day-to-day operations are the responsibility of a chairman and chief executive officer , whose position is currently held by David Cranston , OEB . Mark Goodson is the association's part-time paid general secretary. The approximately ten-person board of directors also includes other positions, including an active representative and a liaison officer to the British military. The latter is essential to the sport of British biathlon as almost all of the country's top athletes serve in the armed forces. The British championships are therefore not only national championships, but also military championships and championships between the individual branches of arms.

The BBU is a member of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the British Olympic Association (BOA) (the National Olympic Committee) and UK Sport . The association and its projects are primarily financed by sponsors, which include a changing main sponsor and the army, the IBU world association and the athletes themselves.

The male and female athletes compete in all international competitions, such as the Olympic Winter Games , Biathlon World Championships , Biathlon European Championships , the Biathlon World Cup and the IBU Cup and its predecessor, the Biathlon European Cup . The national title fights are not held in the home country, but mostly in the Alpine region. The last championships were held in Ruhpolding , more rarely in Obertilliach . Ruhpolding is also the summer training location for the British national team. In addition to the national squad (senior squad, over 21), there is a junior squad and several development squads. In rarer cases, training is also held at the Sportscotland Training Center at Glenmore Lodge near Aviemore , and the development cadre courses are held at the East Grange Biathlon Center in Kinloss .

Coach and squad

The head coach of the association is Walter Pichler , assistant coach Marc Walker . There is no team manager, but the army provides the head coach with two part-time assistant coaches. Martin Glagow is employed as a waxer. The current national squad (2011/12) consists of:
