As in many other parts of the municipality in the Heiligenstadt market, i.OFr. the lords of Aufseß also shaped the beginnings of the village there .

On January 1, 1971, Brunn was incorporated into the Heiligenstadt market in Upper Franconia.

Old descriptions

Topography of the Principality of Bamberg (1752)

In Biedermann's topography of the principality of Bamberg from 1752, Brunn is described as follows:

“A village with a Protestant church and 29 households under the Oberamt Hollfeld and in its bailiwick of the same name, between Aufseß, Neuhaus, Beckendorf and Greifenstein, 9 of them from the bishopric, 2 from the Reverend Cathedral Chapter in Bamberg, 2 from the Princely House of Brandenburg-Culmbach in the office of Streitberg, 14 men to Baron Schencken v. Stauffenberg to Greifenstein Castle and 2 men to the Baron v. Seckendorff belong to Unterleinleiter Castle. The Hochstift has the episcopal right with the church and the high jurisdiction, which the latter is exercised partly by the Amt Hollfeld, partly also by the Amt Ebermannstadt in its separate districts. The Baron Schenck v. Stauffenberg is the sole lord of the village and the community and has with whom Barons u. Dome hunt in the lower castle. The toes are raised partly by the Hochstift, partly by Baron Schenck v. Stauffenberg, partly the Baron v. Seckendorff because of Draindorf, partly the spoon wood v. Kolberg zu Nuremberg, partly the Evangelical Parish in Heiligenstadt and partly the local church itself. The church is a branch of the Protestant mother church in Heiligenstadt, where public services are held only twice a year. She has her own cemetery in which all the people there are buried. In contrast, the inhabitants have to have the remaining parochialis done in Heiligenstadt. The same are immatriculated in the Canton Gebürg and it is known from certain documents that this well was largely owned by v. Aufseß, who at that time have nothing left except hunting and a number of feudal people. What share did Johann Valentin v. Aufseß in the 16th century. After his death, he came across the only heir, Barbara, who married him to the then Chur-Brandenburg secret councilor Christian v. Bellin, who later gave it to other hands for sale. In the village there is neither a mill nor running water, but there are fountains whose fresh springs are well suited to the residents. The drains there run down the mountain and go to the Leinleiter. "

Ludwig Hollfelder (1914)

The assistant teacher Ludwig Hollfelder describes Brunn in the following way in 1914:

“Brunn, a parish village in the Ebermannstadt district office, with 34 houses and 193 inhabitants, 166 of them Protestants. The place is 500 m above sea level at the height of the Franconian Switzerland. The climate is correspondingly harsh, but healthy. There are extensive forests near the village and the spring water is good. The Waischenfeld Rent Office is responsible for tax purposes, the Hollfeld District Court is responsible for the courts, the post station is Heiligenstadt, the Hollfeld train station, there is also a doctor and pharmacy. The road conditions are bad. The population lives from agriculture, there is an inn. "
