Bruno Schettino
Bruno Schettino (born January 5, 1941 in Marigliano , Province of Naples , Italy , † September 21, 2012 in Capua , Province of Caserta ) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Capua .
Life
Bruno Schettino initially studied philosophy, entered the diocesan seminary of the diocese of Nola and received the sacrament of ordination on June 28, 1964 . He then taught religion at the Liceo Carducci and was professor of philosophy and dean at the diocesan seminary in Nola . From 1970 to 1987 he was pastor of Carmine in Nola.
On February 11, 1987, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Teggiano-Policastro . The episcopal ordination received his Giuseppe Cardinal Caprio on April 4, 1987; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno , Guerino Grimaldi , and the Bishop of Nola , Giuseppe Costanzo . His motto Sub tuum praesidium (“ Under Your Protection ”) comes from the Marian antiphon of the same name . On April 29, 1997, John Paul II called Bruno Schettino Archbishop of Capua.
Archbishop Schettino was particularly committed to the African immigrants and the interreligious dialogue in his archbishopric. In the Italian Bishops' Conference , Schettino was President of the Episcopal Commission for Migration and President of the “Migrantes” Foundation . In addition, he was on 26 February 2011 as the Grand Prior of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Savior and St. Bridget of Sweden invested .
Archbishop Schettino died on September 21, 2012 as a result of a heart attack . The exsequies were celebrated on September 23 of the same year by Crescenzio Cardinal Sepe in the Cathedral of Capua, where Archbishop Schettino was subsequently buried.
