Frýdštejn Castle
The castle Frýdštejn (German Friedstein ) is a castle ruin near Malá Skála in the Český ráj ( Bohemian Paradise ) in the Czech Republic .
location
The castle is located in the Liberec region in the Jablonec nad Nisou district about 10 km away from Turnov . It is located in the Bohemian Paradise near the village of Frýdštejn on a sandstone cliff on the northwestern foothills of the Vranovský hrebeň, the same ridge on the southeastern end of which is the Vranov Castle with the Pantheon.
history
The castle was first mentioned in 1385. In the 15th century the castle was besieged by the Hussites . Owners changed several times and the castle was already uninhabited and fell into disrepair in the 16th century. Today the castle belongs to Frýdštejn.
description
The landmark of the castle is the mighty round keep with a diameter of 9 m, a height of 15 m and a wall thickness of 2 m. There are also rooms carved into the rock, parts of the castle walls as well as the remains of a lower-lying second tower and a well.
sightseeing
The castle can be visited for an admission fee from May to October. The castle, especially the rocky rooms, gained particular fame through the peddling witches from the film fairy tale The Princess and the Flying Cobbler .
