The rock castle Stohánek (German Struhanken, Struhanka ) is located on a sandstone rock three kilometers southeast of Stráž pod Ralskem (Wartenberg) in Northern Bohemia ( Czech Republic ). From the once wooden castle complex only a few carved rooms and the cistern are preserved. The castle rock and the surrounding area have been protected as a natural monument on 0.5 hectares since 1995 .
history
The castle was founded in 1427 by Benedikt von Wartenberg as the outer bailey of Děvín . In 1432 Zbiněk von Waldstein bought the facility. In 1444 the castle was conquered and destroyed by the troops of the Six Cities League .
A hermit lived on the Stohánek from 1740 to 1783 .
At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle rock was opened up for tourism. A new staircase was carved out along the old entrance.
From 1946 to 1991 the Stohánek was in a military training area . Cyrillic inscriptions of the Soviet soldiers stationed here at the time can still be found in the rock today.
Nearby is the memorial stone for the hero of the Soviet Union Antonín Sochor , who died here in a traffic accident in 1950.
