Rotštejn rock castle

The rock castle Rotštejn (German: Rothenstein ) is a ruin of a rock castle in the Liberec region in the Czech Republic , located at a height of approx. 450 m . It is located in the rock town of Klokočí in the north of the Bohemian Paradise .

history

It was probably built in the 2nd half of the 13th century; it was first mentioned in 1318. As early as 1433 it was described as desolate.

The castle was mostly made of wood. Some walls, passages, a well and rooms carved into the stone have been preserved.

Accesses

The ruins can be reached on a yellow-marked hiking trail, from the west from Turnov , from the east from the Kozákov mountain . The location on the edge of the rock city allows a good view, which is limited to the eastern area.
