The place is located in the Katschtal valley 3½ kilometers northwest of St. Peter and 2½ km northeast of Schöder . The scattered settlement is left in the valley directly above Feistritz and Baiersdorf , on Baiersdorfer Berg  ( 1762  m above sea level. A. ), a Foothill the Rettlkirchspitze at the 930- 1170  m height. The hill above is the Kühhaltbichl  ( 1225  m above sea level ), between the Feistritzbach and the Grabnerbach , both of which flow into the Katschbach . The place extends westwards into the Katschbach-Engtal (Katschgraben), which leads up to the Sölkpass .

The three eastern houses (Hubenbauer , Burgstaller) belong to the village of Feistritz von St. Peter, the 15 western houses (Baichl, Johnsbauer, Bremsmoar) belong to the village of Baierdorf von Schöder.

history

The name refers to a worn out watchtower. It probably stood at the Burgstaller farmstead (house no. 43; Burgstall 'Kleinburg'), which was documented in a Freising land register as early as 1305 - perhaps even the castle itself is meant. The high path of Katschtalstraße, which has been used since Roman times, probably ran below here from Kammersberger Höhe , where another tower stood on Kammersberg . The residence apparently belonged to the Trennstein (Treuensteiner , in Eastern Styria), and then it came to the Stubenberger to Katsch . The tower was probably destroyed in the Baumkircher feud in 1469.
