history

The castle was built around 1170 by Bernhard von Husen (Hausen), also called Bernhard II von Weilheim. The nobles von Weilheim, who had lived here since around 1170, expanded the castle into a hilltop castle. They called themselves the "Noble von Husen". The last village nobleman died in 1420.

The castle was probably owned by Duke Ludwig the Bavarian from 1318 . It is mentioned as a gift from Ettal Abbey in 1332 . In 1420 Ulrich Ebran is named as the last lord of the castle. In the 15th century the castle fell into disrepair and was demolished. In 1568 the castle was mentioned by Apian as "Willenperg collis et sylva, in eo antiqua vestigia arcis visuntur".

The south-west facing moat and small remains of the wall are still preserved from the former castle complex. In the Middle Ages, the path to the slightly elevated core castle was surrounded by swampy terrain in the north and east. The moat around the location in the south bailey was called a reservoir, today "Seewiese".

The name "Burg Achberg", which is also mentioned by Meyer, should however refer to an estate southwest of the Burgberg.

Today the site is registered as a ground monument D-1-8232-0022 “Castle stables of the high and late Middle Ages ('Willenberg')” by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .
