The district Sarah Baartman ( English Sarah Baartman District Municipality ), until 2015 Cacadu ( English Cacadu District Municipality ), is located in the western part of the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa . 450,584 inhabitants live in an area of 58,194 km² (as of 2011). The administrative seat is Port Elizabeth , which is not in the district.
In 2015 the district got its current name. Sarah Baartman was a Khoikhoi woman who was exhibited in Europe and died there. Cacadu is an isiXhosa term and describes the landscape, characterized by semi-arid plains and swaying mountains, which extends to the sea.
