The La Cruz district is one of the 6 districts of the Tumbes Province in the Tumbes region in the far northwest of Peru . The district was established on June 18, 1962. In the 2017 census, there were 9,057 inhabitants on an area of 65.23 km². In 1993 the population was 6769, in 2007 8090. The administrative center is the coastal town of Caleta Cruz with 9015 inhabitants (as of 2017). Caleta Cruz is 16 km southwest of the provincial and regional capital Tumbes
The La Cruz district is located on the Pacific Ocean in the west of the Tumbes province. There are several beaches on the coast. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs along the coast from Tumbes to Zorritos . The La Cruz district is bordered by the Corrales district in the northeast, the San Jacinto district in the southeast and the Zorritos district ( Contralmirante Villar province ) in the southwest .
