Carloto Cotta

Carloto Cotta (born January 1984 ) is a Portuguese actor.

Life

Cotta comes from a family of artists. His grandmother was an opera singer and his grandfather was a painter and also a singer. Cotta studied at the theater school in Cascais , the Escola de Teatro de Cascais . In 2003 Cotta took on a film role for the first time, in a short film by director Miguel Gomes , for which he then repeatedly stood in front of the camera. In addition to some television roles in telenovelas, he has since worked mainly in auteur films . He starred in João Salaviza's short film Arena , which won the Palme d'Or in the category Best Short Film at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2009 . In 2008 Werner Schroeter gave him a role in his last film, This Night . In the Portuguese public, his fame has recently increased with his television roles, such as his role in the crime series O Bairro (Eng: The Quarter), alongside Maria João Bastos , Paulo Pires and Virgílio Castelo .

In addition to his film roles, Cotta continues to play theater, including in productions by independent stages in the greater Lisbon area. He's also staged himself. His production of Mark Ravenhill's play Shopping and fucking at the Teatro São Luiz received a local critic award in 2007.

Cotta appeared in various music videos by the American singer Marissa Nadler , including 2007 ( Mexican Summer ) and 2009 ( River of dirt ). He is also a musician himself (guitar) and plays in his own band, the seven-member group As Aves Migratórias ( port. For: The migratory birds).

reception

Cotta is considered one of the hopes of independent film. In 2013, photographer Peter Lindbergh portrayed him in a photo series for French Vogue Homme International .

Cotta was nominated for a Globo de Ouro in 2013 for his silent role in Miguel Gomes' award-winning film Tabu - A Tale of Love and Guilt .
