Carroll Gartin (born September 14, 1913 in Meridian , Mississippi , †  December 19, 1966 in Laurel , Mississippi) was an American politician . Between 1952 and 1960 and from 1964 to 1966 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Mississippi.

Career

Nothing is known about Carroll Gartin's youth and schooling. As a member of the Democratic Party , he embarked on a political career. He was considered a strict supporter of racial segregation. In 1952 and 1956 he participated as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions . In 1953 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary elections for the US Senate ; In 1959, he also failed in the gubernatorial primaries.

In 1951, Gartin was elected Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi alongside Hugh L. White . He held this office between 1952 and 1960. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . From 1956 he served under the new Governor James P. Coleman . In 1963 Gartin was re-elected lieutenant governor of his state. He held this office under Governor Paul B. Johnson from 1964 until his death on December 19, 1966. At this point in time he had already announced his candidacy for the next gubernatorial elections, which he did not live to see.
