Amy Tuck (born July 8, 1963 in Maben , Oktibbeha County , Mississippi ) is an American politician . She was lieutenant governor of the state of Mississippi from 2000 to 2008 .

Career

Amy Tuck studied political science and public administration at Mississippi State University . She also studied law at Mississippi College . Politically, she initially joined the Democratic Party . In 1990 she was elected to the Mississippi Senate. In 1995, she failed in her party's primary election for Secretary of State .

In 1999, Tuck was elected Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi alongside Ronnie Musgrove . She held this office after being re-elected between 2000 and 2008. She was Deputy Governor and Chairwoman of the State Senate. Since 2004 she served under the new governor Haley Barbour . In 2002, in the middle of her first term, she joined the Republican Party for personal and political reasons . She was re-elected in 2004 as a Republican. Due to a constitutional provision, she could not run for a third term as Vice Governor in 2008. Instead, she was appointed Special Assistant to the University President at Mississippi State University. She still holds this post today.
