Luther Manship

Luther Manship (born April 13, 1853 in Jackson , Mississippi , †  April 22, 1915 ) was an American politician . Between 1908 and 1912 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Mississippi.

Career

Luther Manship was the ninth of 15 children of Charles Henry and Adeline Manship. The father was a businessman and local politician in Jackson. Luther Manship became a man of letters and wrote poems and songs. He also lectured at the Southern Lyceum Circuit . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In 1907, Manship was elected lieutenant governor of Mississippi alongside Edmond Noel . He held this office between 1908 and 1912. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on April 22, 1915.
