David Ronald "Ronnie" Musgrove (born July 29, 1956 in Tocowa , Panola County , Mississippi ) is an American politician . He was governor of the state of Mississippi from 2000 to 2004 .

Early years and political advancement

Ronnie Musgrove attended Northwest Community College and the University of Mississippi , where he studied law. One of his fellow students was the author John Grisham , who supported Musgrove in all of his later election campaigns. In the years that followed, Musgrove held various offices within the Mississippi Bar Association and became a member of the Democratic Party . From 1987 to 1995 he was a member of the Mississippi Senate , and from 1996 to 2000 he was Deputy Governor of Governor Kirk Fordice .

Mississippi Governor

In 1999, Ronnie Musgrove was elected as the new governor of his state by the legislature as his party's candidate. After neither he nor his opponent Michael Parker had achieved an absolute majority, the Mississippi House of Representatives decided on the future governor in accordance with the state constitution.

Musgrove began his four-year term on January 11, 2000. He immediately took care of the educational policy neglected by his predecessor. The teachers received the largest raise in the state's history. The whole school system has been improved. The computer found its way into the classrooms. Health insurance for children has also been improved. Despite the economic crisis that followed the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , the governor managed to create over 52,000 new jobs in Mississippi. Among other things, the car company Nissan was persuaded to build a plant there. Musgrove was also a member of numerous governors' associations. Despite everything, the governor did not succeed in being re-elected in 2003.

Another résumé

After his governorship ended, Musgrove worked for a law firm. In 2008, he unsuccessfully applied for a seat in the US Senate . Today he also teaches law at various Mississippi state colleges. Ronnie Musgrove has four children with his wife Melody Bruce.
