history

The historical sources only allow assumptions about the origins of the place. Today's municipal area belonged to the Count of Sabugal, who leased it in plots to small farmers living here. In 1581 a white house ( Portuguese : Casa Branca) is said to have stood here, in which equipment and utensils from the nearby Quinta do Zagalo estate were stored. The house was made of limestone, which gave it its light color and hence its name. This went over to the settlement forming around it.

Casa Branca belonged to the São Brás municipality until it was destroyed during the Lisbon earthquake in 1755 . The now independent municipality of Casa Branca belonged to the Cano district until its dissolution in 1826 . Casa Branca belonged 1839 to the circle Avis , 1852 to Sousel and 1862 to Fronteira . With an interruption from 1895 to 1896 when it belonged to Estremoz, Casa Branca has remained a parish of Sousels ever since.
