Cedães is a place and a municipality in northern Portugal . The place is embedded in the rough nature of the Trás-os-Montes plateau.

The municipality Cedães belongs since 2017 to the 39 Portuguese Eco-Freguesias XXI , one of the Blue Flag award and the Portuguese Environment Agency title is awarded to communities in Portugal, particularly sustainable and socially - inclusive are aligned. In addition to good grades in criteria such as environmental protection, culture, job creation in rural areas or integrative youth and elderly work, it was the highest rating in the criterion of biodiversity that earned the municipality the award. In 2019, Cedães won the award again and was the only municipality in the Bragança district to achieve the required number of points.

Since 2017, the municipality has organized the trail running Cedães, a nationally known trail run that attracts runners from all over northern Portugal. Hikes are also organized in parallel within the framework.

history

Today's place was probably created in the course of the new settlements during and after the medieval Reconquista .

At the end of the 19th century, the village of Cedainhos was separated from the municipality of Cedães.

Since around 1960, the community has recorded sustained emigration , especially to France. The population decreased from 853 in 1960 to 338 in 2011.
