history

Finds show a prehistoric settlement, especially the archaeological excavation sites in the Serra de Santa Comba and the Serra de Passos. The Romans settled here, presumably on the basis of a previous simple settlement of the Castro culture .

Today's place was probably created with the settlement policy in the course of the medieval Reconquista . In 1225 the place received its first city rights from King D. Sancho II , which were renewed in 1259 by King D. Afonso III and again in 1515 by King D. Manuel I.

Until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution from 1821 and the following Miguelistenkrieg in 1834 Lamas de Orelhão remained the seat of a separate district with the communities Avidagos, Barcel, Cobro, Franco, Lamas de Orelhão, Marmelos, Passos, Suçães, Valverde, Vila Boa e Eixes . At first the communities Abreiro and Navalho were attached to the district, in 1853 the district was dissolved. Since then, Lamas de Orelhão has been a parish in Mirandela County.
