Mascarenhas is a town and municipality in northern Portugal .

history

The present-day village was probably created during the course of new settlements after the medieval Reconquista . In the royal registers from 1258 Mascarenhas is recorded as the original donation from King D. Sancho I (ruled from 1185 to 1211) to the knight Fernando Fernandes Bragançano, who then passed the area on to the knight Estevão Rodrigues.

The current parish church was built in 1721, and in 1796 Mascarenhas had 201 inhabitants.
