Carvalhais is a town and municipality in northern Portugal . Due to the continued growth of the district town of Mirandela , parts of the community are already part of the closed urban area of Mirandelas, namely the main town of Carvalhais and the village of Vila Nova das Patas.

The Mirandela Metro stops here. The Mirandela agricultural vocational school in Carvalhais, the EPA - Escola Profissional de Agricultura e Desenvolvimento Rural, can thus be reached.

The Feira da Couve Penca ( Portuguese for: Market des Penca cabbage, a local variety of cabbage) , which takes place annually in December, is a public agricultural fair for local products that works like a weekly market. It is increasingly gaining national recognition.

history

The present-day place was probably created during the course of the new settlements after the medieval Reconquista .

In the 16th century Carvalhais was an independent community.

In 1905 the community was connected to the national rail network when the Linha do Tua line reached the town.

After the dissolution of the previously independent municipality of Chelas in 1911, it was incorporated into the municipality of Carvalhais until it was assigned to the municipality of Cabanelas in 1936 .

As part of his historical series Horizontes da Memória for the public television station RTP , Prof. José Hermano Saraiva also visited the Carvalhais community in 1997.
