Zhanang ( Tibetan : གྲ་ ནང་ རྫོང , transcription after Wylie : gra nang rdzong; also Dranang Dzong or Chanang ) is a district in the administrative district of Shannan in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . It has an area of 2,141.92 square kilometers and according to the census of 1990 33,291 inhabitants, of which 33,156 Tibetans and 126 Han Chinese (2000 census: 35,278 inhabitants).
The important monasteries Samye , Mindrölling , Dingpoche Monastery and Dorje Drag are located in Zhanang (see “ Northern Treasures ”).
