The area served as pastureland for more than 100 years and was given to the Trustees in 1960. A complementary donation of further areas took place in 1994. The peninsula is formed by a nearly 180 ° turn of the eponymous Charles River and consists mainly of an open green area, the banks of which are lined with birch , hemlock and beech . A narrow footpath leads along the shore.

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) offers boat rentals near the parking lot. There are two landing stages within the reserve.
