ChemCar
ChemCar is an annual competition that has been held in Germany since 2006, in which students from the fields of process engineering and chemistry compete against each other with self-developed, reaction- powered vehicles. The aim of this race is to design the reaction system as precisely as possible so that the ChemCar can cover a specified distance with one payload as precisely as possible. The ChemCar competition is organized by the creative young process engineers (kjVI), the VDI-Gesellschaft process engineering and chemical engineering (VDI-GVC) and DECHEMA .
historical development
The first German ChemCar competition was held on September 27, 2006 at the GVC / DECHEMA annual conference in Wiesbaden. The first vehicle to start in a ChemCar competition came from the Technical University of Dresden (Team Conficon DD ), while the winner of the first ChemCar competition was the Playmobil team from the Clausthal University of Technology .
The following table gives an overview of the ChemCar competitions that have taken place so far:

Placements
Set of rules
Since its introduction, the regulations of the ChemCar competition have been extended or corrected annually. The current version can be found on the chemcar.de website.
Doping
The 1st place in the ChemCar competition is endowed with prize money of 2000.00 € and the ChemCar Cup, while the price for the 2nd place is 1000.00 € and for the 3rd place 500.00 €.
Eligibility to participate
Students from all fields of study without an academic degree are admitted to the ChemCar competition. Each team has to choose a team leader and should have a supervisor with an academic degree in the field of process engineering , mechanical engineering , chemistry or the like.
Vehicle criteria
The energy source for driving the vehicle may only be a chemical reaction . The use of commercially available batteries for vehicle propulsion is prohibited. No devices may be used that allow remote control of the vehicle. The vehicle must meet certain size and weight limits and be designed in such a way that an additional weight of up to 30% of its empty load can be transported.
Concept phase
In the first phase, the student teams develop a concept for setting up and operating their vehicle. The submitted concepts are then evaluated with regard to the fulfillment of the stated requirements and their originality and the best 9 are selected for the actual competition. The approved teams then have to create a detailed safety concept in which they describe and evaluate the dangers posed by the vehicle.
competition
The actual competition is divided into two parts. The first part includes a poster presentation in which the respective vehicles and their drive systems are presented to a jury of industry representatives. Only then does the actual race take place, in which the distance to be covered and the payload are announced immediately before the start. In addition, a detailed safety assessment takes place, which is also included in the evaluation. Successful completion of this safety assessment is essential for participation in the race. The final ranking consists of the evaluation of the poster presentation, the safety evaluation and the placement in the race.
