Chen Chieh (born May 8, 1992 in Taichung ) is a Taiwanese hurdler who specializes in the 400-meter distance .

Athletic career

Chen Chieh gained his first international experience at the East Asian Games in Hong Kong in 2009 , where he was sixth in the 400-meter run, fifth in the hurdles and won the bronze medal with the Taiwanese 4-by-400-meter relay. The following year he won silver over the hurdles and bronze over 400 meters at the Junior Asian Championships in Hanoi and reached fourth place with the 4 x 100 meter relay. He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Moncton , where he reached the semi-finals in the hurdles. In 2011 he first took part in the Asian Championships in Kobe , where he won the bronze medal in 50.39 s. He then took part in the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen and reached the semi-finals there. In 2012 he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou over 400 meters and was eliminated there with 49.88 s in the first round. During the outdoor season he qualified for the Olympic Games in London , where he's in 50.27 in advance eliminated.

At the Asian Championships in Pune he was fifth in 50.86 s and then he won the silver medal in the individual competition and bronze with the relay at the East Asian Games in Tianjin . The following year he reached at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea in 51.10 s also fifth and at the Asian Championships in Wuhan the following year he won the silver medal behind the Japanese Yūta Konishi in 49.68 s . He then took part again in the Summer Universiade in Gwangju and was sixth there in 50.22 s. 2016 he qualified again for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , where he's with 50.65 again in the lead was eliminated. The following year he won at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 49.75 s the silver medal behind the Filipino Eric Cray and came in fourth with the relay. Then he also won the silver medal behind the Dominican Juander Santos at the Summer Universiade in Taipei in 49.05 s . In addition, he was disqualified with the relay in the final.

In 2018 he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , finishing fourth there in 49.62 seconds. In addition, he could not qualify for the final with the Taiwanese relay with 3: 08.76 min. The following year he won the silver medal behind the Katari Abderrahman Samba at the Asian Championships in Doha with a new record of 48.92 seconds . So he qualified for the World Championships , which also took place in Doha and there reached the semifinals , in which he was eliminated with 50.00 s.

In 2009 and 2010, Chen became Taiwanese champion in the 400-meter run and in 2010 also over 400-meter hurdles. He graduated from National Taiwan Sport University . His father Chen Kwong-ming was active as a hurdler himself.
