Eric Shauwn Brazas Cray (born November 11, 1988 in Olongapo City ) is a Filipino hurdler who specializes in the 400-meter distance and also competes in the sprint . In addition to being a Filipino citizen, he is also a US citizen.

Athletic career

Eric Cray gained his first international experience in 2013 when he retired at the Asian Championships in Pune in the 110-meter hurdles with 14.31 s in the first round and was unable to finish his run in the 400-meter hurdles in the final. Over 400 m hurdles he qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where he was eliminated with 52.45 s in the first round. He then won the Southeast Asian Games in Naypyidaw in 51.29 s and took sixth place over the shorter hurdle distance in 14.34 s. The following year he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou , was there in 6.75 s fifth in the 60-meter run and eliminated over 60-meter hurdles with 8.97 s in the run. At the end of October, he took part in the Asian Games for the first time in Incheon , South Korea , where he finished sixth with 51.47 s in the final. In 2015 he qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated in the preliminary round with 50.04 s . Before that, however, he won the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore with a new national record of 10.25 s in the 100-meter run and 49.40 s - player record - also over 400 m hurdles.

In 2016 he won the bronze medal over 60 meters behind the Iranians Hassan Taftian and Reza Ghasemi at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha in 6.70 seconds . So he qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where he was eliminated with 6.67 s in the semifinals. During the outdoor season he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and reached the semi-finals there , in which he was eliminated with 49.37 s. The following year he won the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 49.57 s and took part again in the World Championships in London , where he was disqualified this time in the preliminary stages. At the beginning of September he took part in the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat , where he won the silver medal in the 60-meter run behind the Iranian Hassan Taftian in 6.63 seconds. In addition, he won the gold medal over 400 m hurdles in 50.03 s at the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur that year and won the silver medal behind the Malaysian Khairul Hafiz Jantan in the 100 meter run in 10.43 s and secured himself with the Philippine 4 x 100 meter relay with a new national record of 39.11 seconds, the bronze medal behind the teams from Thailand and Indonesia. At the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Birmingham in 2018 , he was eliminated from the 60 m hurdles with 6.81 s in the preliminary run and was seventh at the Asian Games in Jakarta in late August in 51.53 s. In addition, he retired with the season with 39.59 s in the first round.

At the Asian Championships in Doha in 2019 , he reached the semi-finals over 100 and 200 meters, where he was eliminated with 10.56 seconds and was disqualified over 200 meters. In addition, he finished sixth with the 4 x 100 meter relay in 40.10 s. At the beginning of December he was disqualified at the Southeast Asian Games in Capas over 100 meters in the first round, but won the hurdles in 50.21 s and with 41.67 s in the mixed 4 x 100 meter relay. In addition, he won the bronze medal behind Thailand and Malaysia in the men's 4 x 100 meter relay in 40.04 s.

He graduated from Bethune-Cookman University with a degree in Education and a Masters in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma .
