Chief Secretary to the Treasury
The Chief Secretary to the Treasury is the third highest ministerial posts in HM Treasury of the United Kingdom , according to the First Lord of the Treasury ( Prime Minister ) and the Chancellor of the Exchequer .
history
The Chancellor of the Exchequer has a department, which in other governments is responsible for the finance minister and the economy minister. Therefore, the post of Chief Secretary of the Treasury was created in 1961 to relieve the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Until 2015, the incumbent was always a member of the cabinet . Since then he has only taken part in cabinet meetings. Thus the Treasury was the only department with more than one member in the cabinet.
His tasks include procurement policy, paying the public service and negotiating the budget.
