Thomas Lauderdale, who now lived in Portland , Oregon , asked Forbes to join his group, Pink Martini, formed in 1994 . She took on the role of lead singer and moved to Portland three years later to devote herself fully to working with Pink Martini, referred to by the New York Times as the retro-lounge group .

In 2008 Forbes released their second solo album '78 on Lauderdale 's Heinz Records label. In the same year she sang a duet of the song How Will It Last? Forbes paused for about a year from mid-2011 because of vocal cord surgery. She later described this time in an interview as one of the most difficult phases in her life; she rarely felt so isolated. After her return, she reduced her appearances with Pink Martini and shares the role of lead singer with Storm Large , who had represented her during her illness break.

Forbes is married and gave birth to a son in 2009.
