The Chinese-German University of Applied Sciences (short CDHAW ; Chinese  同济大学中德工程学院 , Pinyin Zhong dé Gongcheng Xueyuan ) was founded in 2004 on the initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research , Minister Edelgard Bulmahn , and the Chinese Ministry of Education , Minister Zhou Ji , founded at Tongji University in Shanghai . The CDHAW belongs together with the Chinese-German University College and the Sino-German Institute for Vocational Training at the Sino-German University at Tongji University.

Carrier of the CDHAW

The bi-national university is sponsored by Tongji University and the consortium “German University Consortium for International Cooperation”, abbreviated DHIK . 30 universities have come together in the DHIK. The director of the CDHAW has been Feng Xiao since 2007. The spokesman for the consortium has been Dieter Leonhard, Rector of the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences since 2013. Hans-Wilhelm Orth, formerly rector of the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences, has been the overall coordinator on the German side since 2004. Each of the four courses has a coordinator in Germany who organizes the cooperation between the German universities involved in the respective course.

Educational model project

The CDHAW was founded as an educational model project to introduce and establish the German university of applied sciences model in China. The aim of the CDHAW is to offer Chinese students a degree that follows the pattern of science-based and practical training at German universities of applied sciences. In addition, the students should develop their connection to Germany by learning the German language and spending one year in Germany. This model is also intended to serve as a model for other Chinese universities. German students can also complete a year abroad at the CDHAW in Shanghai.

Courses offered by the CDHAW

The CDHAW offers four-year double bachelor's programs in the fields of vehicle technology , building technology , mechatronics and industrial engineering . In addition to the courses in Chinese, an important element is the export of several modules by German university lecturers to the CDHAW in Shanghai. As a further important element, German lessons with 1,200 hours were integrated into the course. In order to continue studying in Germany, you must have passed the "Test of German as a Foreign Language TestDaF ".

The fourth year of study takes place in Germany and is completed at one of the 26 German DHIK partner universities with a study semester and a practical phase / Bachelor thesis in a German company.

The automotive engineering, building technology and mechatronics courses were accredited by the AQAS accreditation agency in 2009 and reaccredited in 2014. The industrial engineering course, which was introduced later, was positively accredited by AQAS in 2011.

The CDHAW is located on the Jiading Campus of Tongji University. The laboratories for the four courses are also located here.
