Christian "Chris" Kum (born September 13, 1985 in Frankfurt am Main , Germany ) is a Dutch- German soccer player . He is under contract with the Dutch first division club VVV-Venlo . He has Dutch and German citizenship.

Career

The son of a German and a Dutch woman moved from Hessen to the Netherlands when he was one and a half years old. He played in the youth of DSO in the satellite town of Zoetermeer just outside The Hague . From here he moved to the youth of Feyenoord in Rotterdam . While he had scored many goals as a center forward at DSO, he was retrained as a defender at Feyenoord, but remained second choice and was rarely used. He therefore went back to an amateur club, the RVC from Rijswijk .

Those responsible at ADO Den Haag discovered him at the RVC . In the second half of the 2005/06 season , the 20-year-old made his debut in the Eredivisie. In the home game against PSV , he replaced Spira Grujić in central defense, who had not yet got back into shape after an injury . Only two more missions followed this season. But over the course of the next two seasons, Kum developed into a permanent fixture in the ADO defense - be it as a central defender or on one of the flanks. Especially after relegation in 2007, he was able to convince in coach Wiljan Vloet's team in the Eerste Divisie - so much that Foppe de Haan appointed him as the only second division player in the extended squad of his team for the Olympic Games in Beijing. Due to an ankle injury, Kum missed preparation with the national team, ultimately making him one of the four players who stayed in the Netherlands on call. With his club he rose directly back to the Eredivisie that year.

After two seasons in the lower regions of the Eredivisie, ADO experienced an unexpected upturn in the 2010/11 season under coach John van den Brom . In January, Kum played his way into the "field of vision" of the ranking of Germans abroad of the kicker sports magazine .

For the first time since 1987 ADO Den Haag qualified for a UEFA competition in 2011, albeit only with a penalty shoot-out after two spectacular playoff games against FC Groningen , which the home team won 5-1 in each case. As a result, Kum gained his first international experience at club level; however, ADO was eliminated in the third qualifying round .

For the 2012/13 season , Kum moved to SC Heerenveen, trained by Marco van Basten .
