Steffen Schäfer (born May 1, 1994 in Cologne ) is a German soccer player . He is under contract with VVV-Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie from the 2019/20 season and is usually called up in central defense.

Career

Youth and 1. FC Köln II

He started his career at TSV Bayer Dormagen and later moved to the youth department of 1. FC Köln . As a youth player, he played his first game for the Cologne reserve team on March 26, 2013. In the 1: 3 defeat against SC Verl in Regionalliga West , he was substituted on by coach Dirk Lottner in the 83rd minute for Sebastian Spinrath. For the 2013/14 season he was promoted completely from the A youth team to the reserve team of 1. FC Köln.

1. FC Saarbrücken

After a season in the Cologne reserve, he was signed by 1. FC Saarbrücken. He played his first game for the new club in the Southwest Regional Football League on August 22nd, 2014 in a 1-0 win against KSV Baunatal . From coach Fuat Kılıç he was called up in the starting lineup. In the game against SpVgg Neckarelz , he completed his 50th league game in a regional league . From coach Taifour Diane he was considered in the 1-1 draw in the starting lineup.

In the 2014/15 season he ran twice for the reserve of 1. FC Saarbrücken in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar . His first game on November 30, 2014 in the 1: 4 defeat against TSV Schott Mainz and his second a week later in the 1: 4 defeat against FSV Salmrohr .

FSV Frankfurt

For the 2016/17 season he was signed by FSV Frankfurt . He celebrated his debut for Frankfurt in the 3rd division and thus his professional debut on July 30, 2016 in the game against Holstein Kiel. In the 1-1 draw he was substituted on by coach Roland Vrabec in the 57th minute for Christopher Schorch .

1. FC Magdeburg

After the relegation of the FSV from the third division, Schäfer moved to 1. FC Magdeburg . Here he achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with the team in his debut season.

VVV-Venlo

After Magdeburg was unable to hold its ground in the second division in its first season, the defender moved to the Dutch Eredivisie for VVV-Venlo for the 2019/20 season . He received a two-year contract there, which can optionally be extended for another year.
