Christian Schuchardt (politician)

Christian Schuchardt (born January 29, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German local politician ( CDU ) and Lord Mayor of Würzburg .

Life

Schuchardt was born in 1969 as the son of a chemist and a doctor and grew up in Dreieich . After graduating from high school, he did his military service in 1988 and then began an apprenticeship at the Hessische Landesbank in Frankfurt. At the same time he was politically active and was elected to the city council of Dreieich for the CDU. After completing his apprenticeship, Schuchardt began studying administrative sciences in Konstanz. In 1995 he returned to Helaba with a degree in administrative science. He rose to the position of deputy head of department and authorized signatory and was responsible for lending to the municipalities.

In 2004 he moved to the town hall of Schwerte in the Ruhr area as a treasurer, and in 2007 he became treasurer in Würzburg. In the election for Lord Mayor on March 16, 2014, Schuchardt stood as a joint candidate from the CSU , FDP and Würzburg List . In a runoff election on March 30, 2014, he won with an absolute majority of 55.73% of the votes cast. He is the first CDU Lord Mayor of a major Bavarian city. In the upcoming Mayor elections on March 15, 2020, Schuchardt ran for a further six-year term. He was re-elected in the first ballot with around 52% of the votes cast.

He is a member of the Catholic student union KDStV Gothia Würzburg in the CV .

Family background

Christian Schuchardt was married to Åsa Petersson from Sweden, Managing Director of Region Mainfranken GmbH, from 2010 to 2015. The journalist and author Eva-Maria Bast has been his partner since the beginning of 2018 . The couple have one son. He lives with his family in Frauenland .
