Christoph Ernst von Hoverbeck

Theophil Christoph Ernst Freiherr von Hoverbeck (born February 28, 1725 in Domkau ; † January 5, 1781 in Aschersleben ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Seelhorst" No. 6 .

Life

Christoph Ernst was the son of Adam Bogislaus von Hoverbeck († August 3, 1735), Lord of Domkau, Geyerswalde and Reichenau, and his wife Sophie, née von Polenz from the Neudeck family. His brother was the later Prussian major general Reinhold Friedrich von Hoverbeck (1720-1770).

Military career

Hoverbeck joined the cuirassier regiment "von Buddenbrock" No. 1 as an Estandartenjunker in 1738 . During the campaign in 1740/42 he fought Mollwitz and Chotusitz and in the meantime became a cornet on December 4, 1741 . In the 1744/45 campaign , Hoverbeck was wounded as a lieutenant in the battle of Hohenfriedberg and was then used with his regiment in the battles of Soor and Kesselsdorf . In 1747 he became staff assistant master .

During the Seven Years' War in 1756/63, Hoverbeck was at the battles of Breslau , where he was wounded again, near Hochkirch , Kay , Kunersdorf , Torgau and Freiberg . He was also at the siege of Brieg , Prague and Schweidnitz . After the battle of Torgau, Hoverbeck received the order Pour le Mérite for his bravery . In addition, he was promoted to Rittmeister on February 12, 1758 during the war and appointed company commander. On January 23, 1760, Hoverbeck rose to major .

In 1772 and 1773 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and colonel . As such, Hoverbeck was appointed commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Roeder" No. 1 on June 25, 1775. In 1778/79 he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession and was promoted to major general on January 19, 1779. At the same time King Friedrich Wilhelm II appointed him chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Seelhorst" No. 6.

Hoverbeck was married to Barbara Helene Freiin von Hoverbeck from the Queden family. The couple had thirteen children, but only the following four sons survived:

  • Karl Ernst Bogislaus (* 1760), Prussian staff officer in the cuirassier regiment No. 1
  • Karl (* 1771; † August 10, 1789), Prussian cornet in the cuirassier regiment No. 8
  • Friedrich Leopold Eduard (born May 22, 1774 in Breslau)
  • Friedrich Adam Traugott (born June 10, 1776 in Breslau; † May 20, 1795 in Berlin), Prussian Junker in the "von Möllendorff" infantry regiment No. 25
