Christoph Friedrich Zanthier

Christoph Friedrich Zanthier (born July 19, 1671 in Prosigk ; † February 2, 1760 ) was a Prussian major and district administrator in Anhalt .

Life

Origin and family

Christoph Friedrich came from the Anhalt noble family Zanthier . His parents were Christoph Heinrich Zanthier († 1671) and Martha Sibylle von Schlegel adH Zehringen († 1709). His mother married in 1695 with the governor Carl Rudolph von Ingersleben , who thus became his stepfather.

Zanthier married Sabina von Wolfersdorf , widow of Wolf Ernst von Schlegel , in 1712 . The marriage remained without children of her own, but she had brought a daughter Gisela Agnes von Schlegel into the marriage, who later married the Polish lieutenant colonel of the cavalry Georg Heinrich von Zanthier.

Career

Due to the early death of his father, Zanthier was heir to Prosigk from birth . The Rosenburg estate was only to come to him when his mother died. As a noble boy he was called to Berlin in 1683, where he won the trust and encouragement of Friedrich III. enjoyed, accompanied him on numerous trips and was also delegated to some embassies and was most recently his hunting page.

In 1692 Brandenburg took part in the Turkish war to relieve the Austrians . Zanthier moved out in 1692 as an ensign with the "Dönhoff" regiment . He took part in the siege of Belgrade in 1693 , was promoted to lieutenant in 1695 and was entrusted with adjutant services during the Battle of Zenta in 1697 . After the end of the war and back in Prussia , he was promoted to captain and company commander . When the Prussians tried to take possession of the city of Elbing by military means in 1698, Zanthier played a key role as head of a commando operation in which a city gate was to be occupied. In 1711, meanwhile promoted to major, he received his farewell .

With the opening of the noble Gisela-Agnes-Stift in Köthen in 1711, Zanthier became its first patron . In 1714 he was presented to the Anhalt knighthood of Koethen as district administrator and confirmed.
