On June 13, 1731 he became a staff captain and on March 10, 1734 a real captain. In 1740 King Friedrich II transferred him as a major to Infantry Regiment No. 33 (Persode). In 1741 he got his own grenadier battalion in the camp near Brandenburg. It was formed from the grenadier companies of Regiment No. 33 and Regiment No. 11 (Holstein).

In 1742 he went with the regiment to Upper Silesia , where he was quartered. On May 10, 1743 he became a lieutenant colonel, and on November 8, 1745 colonel and 1746 commander of the regiment. In 1757 he reinforced his regiment with two more battalions. And in July 1758 the Kosel fortress was besieged by the Austrians, but was able to hold out until Frederick II succeeded in relieving an army under Fouqué in November . No sooner had the army withdrawn than the Austrians tried again. This time too Lattorf was able to defend the fortress until General Werner brought relief. For his work he was appointed lieutenant general on November 24, 1758 and was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle.

In 1760 the Austrians under General Laudon stood again before Kosel with 30,000 men. From October 21 to 24 they closed the ring around the fortress and stormed on the night of October 24 to 25. Again the fortress held up and the Austrians had to withdraw with losses when relief came through from the Goltz . As a reward, Lattorf received an additional pension of 500 thalers in November 1760. He died in Kosel on April 3, 1762.
