Johann Siegismund von Lattorf (born June 23, 1699 on Gut Großen-Salza ; † September 3, 1761 ibid ) was a Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 1 and governor of Rein and heir of Großen-Salza.

Life

Origin and family

Johann Siegismund was a member of the Anhalt noble family von Lattorff . His parents were Hans Wilhelm von Lattorf and his third wife Katharina Sophie von Hänichen . The Prussian Lieutenant General Christoph Friedrich von Lattorf was his brother. He himself remained unmarried and left no heir.

Career

He was first brought up at home and then came to the court in Zerbst as a page . After spending a few years there, he was transferred to the Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 13 in 1713 . At the siege of Stralsund in 1715 he was already an ensign and on October 7, 1718 he became an ensign. He applied for his departure, which he received on May 30, 1719, but soon returned to the army and on October 7, 1721 was second lieutenant. On May 11, 1730 he became Premier Lieutenant and received his own company on February 25, 1737. In the First Silesian War he fought in the Battle of Mollwitz . He was with the 1st Battalion of Infantry Regiment No. 13 in 1741 in the small town of Lesch in Moravia when the Austrian Colonel Tercy attacked with 4,000 men. Lattorff was able to withdraw with the battalion, but had to leave all his luggage behind. For the successful campaign he received the order Pour le Mérite . On June 1, 1742 he became major and took part in the battles of Hohenfriedberg , Soor and Kesselsdorf .

After the Silesian Wars , the king made him lieutenant colonel on May 24, 1750 and on September 11, 1754, he was appointed colonel and commander of Infantry Regiment No. 13 . On May 30, 1756, Lattorff was transferred to Rein in Prussia.

During the Seven Years' War he marched with the regiment to Saxony on August 23, 1756. He fought in the battles of Lobositz , Prague and Roßbach . On December 2, 1757, Lattorff was promoted to major general. That year he was with the king's vanguard. He was grazed on the loin and lost his left eye from another shot. On January 5, 1758, he was given Infantry Regiment No. 1 (Winterfeld). He stayed with the regiment in Silesia when the king set out for the battle of Zorndorf . However, Lattorff was handicapped by the loss of his eye and therefore asked for his departure on February 2, 1760, which was approved on February 4. He received a pension of 1000 thalers and retired to his Grossen-Salza estate, where he died on September 3, 1763 and was buried. He wasn't married.
