Cinema Erotica is the eleventh studio album by the US band Blood on the Dance Floor . It was released on November 2, 2018.

backgrounds

Dahvie Vanity and Fallon Vendetta wrote and produced all titles on Cinema Erotica themselves. According to the singer, the album was created as a reaction to the fact that sex is increasingly viewed as something negative in modern society , and the band wanted to show their audience that it was "okay" to "be open about one's sexual life" ("it's okay to be open with your sexuality "). It constitutes a 'celebration of sexuality, empowerment and love "(" the celebration of sexuality, empowerment, love "). As a demarcation for three years before published, also strongly influenced by sexual content EP Cruel Pornography called Vanity album as" closer in a story rather than pornographic material "(" more of a story rather than pornographic material ").

The album was widely released on November 2, 2018, but has been available for pre-order on their website since May 25 of the same year in a hand-signed physical form limited to 100 copies. Whoever made use of this could already hear the song Diamonds in advance . The CD edition also includes an additional bonus track called Scream Queen .

Seven singles were released from the album: The Dominant , The Climax , Death Squad , Anthem For the Weekend , Vengeance , Disco Bloodbath (Reign in Infamy) and Haunted (Cursed to Feel) . The former was the only one to receive a music video . This is the first that the band, excluding lyric videos and solo projects, since the 2013 song Damaged from the album Bad Blood released. The song The Runaways was also originally available as a bonus track on the limited CD edition of the previous album Haunted .

Music and lyrics

Musically, Cinema Erotica is much more uniform than the two previous albums with the participation of Fallon Vendetta. The style of the work is a mixture of catchy electro-pop and dark industrial , whereby the individual songs differ in the weighting of these elements. With Death Squad you can find a comparatively hard and not very radio-friendly track, and with Haunted (Cursed to Feel) a rather light and melodic track can be found on the album. Most of the titles combine the characteristics of the two styles in a balanced way. An atmosphere and aesthetics borrowed from the horror genre runs through the texts of the work , which often deal with the pleasure of the dangerous and the pain . In addition to the recurring motif of sexuality, vampirism , the destruction of enemies caused by karma , the processing of tormenting memories or revenge are also addressed on the album.

Cover design

The cover of Cinema Erotica is traditionally drawn and shows the two band members standing from belly up in front of the outline of a coffin . The background is black and covered with red stylized blood stains . Fallon Vendetta can be seen in the foreground of the subject. She is dressed revealingly and wears a white , cropped, sleeveless shirt , which is heavily torn on her chest . Her body is heavily tattooed and there is blood running out of her mouth . Behind her on the left is Dahvie Vanity, who is touching her shoulder with his right hand . He wears a white sweater from his own clothing line Enjoy Death , the logo of which is placed on the left of his chest. Tattoos can also be seen on his hand and neck . The band name is written in large red letters above the artists' heads ; in the middle at the bottom of the picture the album title in the same color and different font .

Like the three previous studio albums, Cinema Erotica could not prove itself in the charts worldwide and thus could not build on the previous successes of the group.
