The Legend of Blood on the Dance Floor is the second best-of compilation album by the US band Blood on the Dance Floor . It was released on September 16, 2011.

Background and content

In The Legend of Blood on the Dance Floor is the second compilation of the musical project, as well as the first, which experienced a broad, unlimited publication. After the original plans for a physical edition were discarded, the work appeared exclusively on the Soundcloud streaming platform . Although the third studio album Epic was already available at the time of publication , there are no tracks from it on the Best of. Instead, the focus is on their first two studio albums Let's Start a Riot! and It's Hard to Be a Diamond in a Rhinestone World , as well as their EPs I Scream I Scream and OMFG Sneak Peak . Thus, it has a similar, but not identical, track list to the band's first compilation, Lest We Forget the Best of BOTDF . The most noticeable difference is that on The Legend of Blood on the Dance Floor with My Gift and My Curse a song from the deluxe edition of the album All the Rage !! is included. There are no previously unpublished titles to be found.

The band members were Dahvie Vanity , Christopher Mongillo , Rebecca Fugate , Garrett Ecstasy and Jayy von Monroe at the time of its formation . Only Matty M , who was only part of the project on a single single in 2009, cannot be heard on the album. Vanity is the only constant member on all songs and was involved in all songs as a songwriter, sometimes together with other bandmates. The pieces were produced by Mongillo, Rusty Wilmot and James Egbert . Lolli Dolli appears as the only guest artist .

Music and lyrics

In the phase of the band, which was mainly the focus of the album, their style was mainly characterized by electronic background music, mostly in the Synth Pop or Eurodance style. The pieces of the group produced by Mongillo mostly use a mixture of dominant, catchy synthesizers and mostly in the background mixed guitars and drum computers . Rusty Wilmot, on the other hand, used pounding, hard kick drums that give the instrumentals a distinct techno twist. In the phase captured on the album, Dahvie Vanity still mainly used spoken vocals ; Conventional singing is only sporadic , mostly by Mongillo. Screamo is also used at individual points . In terms of content, the group still relied on provocative texts that explicitly deal with sex , violence and an exaggerated self-portrayal . The track My Gift and My Curse , which Wilmot produced together with James Egbert, on the other hand, is a clear step in the direction of pop, which dominated the charts at the time, with slight dubstep influences and much less obnoxious lyrics, which reflects the style that the band used during their commercially successful era.

Cover design

The cover artwork for The Legend of Blood on the Dance Floor shows a silver shield against a gold background , the motif of which is divided into four quarters, in which pictures are punched. At the top left is a blood- drenched music cassette, at the top right an ice cream cone , at the bottom right a leopard skin pattern that Dahvie Vanitys used on the cover of All the Rage !! worn face paint is covered, and a diamond at the bottom left . Only the blood is red . At the top of the picture is written "The Legend of" in black handwriting, underneath a black line. Below this is the band name in red.
