Hollywood Death Star is the twelfth and final studio album from the US music project Blood on the Dance Floor . It was released on September 5, 2019.

background

After the private and artistic separation of the two band members Fallon Vendetta and Dahvie Vanity , the latter has continued the music project Blood on the Dance Floor alone since the beginning of 2019. On July 28 of the same year the release of the new album was announced; At the same time it was announced that it would be the last publication of the project. In the future, Vanity would like to dedicate himself to the music of his new pseudonym, Kawaii Monster.

Hollywood Death Star is the first album after the band's ban on the Spotify streaming platform, which is often discussed in the music press . After It's Hard to Be a Diamond in a Rhinestone World , it is also the second album on which Dahvie Vanity is the sole band member at the time of release (at that time, however , Christopher Mongillo only left the group in the course of the creation of the work and was still working on most of the tracks With). He produced and wrote all the songs by hand, with Fallon Vendetta on three titles and one Voxout as co-authors. The latter is also the work's only guest musician .

Hollywood Death Star was released digitally, and was also available as a limited edition CD on the music project's website.

Six singles were released from the album: Best of Me , Evolve , Hoping For the Impossible , My Mind is on the Edge , Sex Rx and Sweet Like Popsicles . The title Scream Queen was also already on the limited CD edition of the previous album Cinema Erotica ; at Eat You Alive is the same song that in 2017 the party edition of the debut album Let's Start a Riot! appeared as a bonus track under the title Modern World Christ (Reborn) . The lead single Best of Me was also included on the Kawaii Monster EP Poison Love about a month before the album was released , but was titled Revolt there .

Music and lyrics

The songs on Hollywood Death Star can be assigned to various subgenres of electronic pop music . Several of the songs with a pounding techno - Beat underlaid and have elements of the Euro Dance on; Rhythms on other tracks are more diverse and can be compared with those of chart-oriented, contemporary contributions. The individual pieces, however, differ greatly in their tonality, so that some titles stand out with their cheerful and light melodies, while others contain borrowings from industrial rock . Dahvie Vanity takes the lead vocals on most tracks ; only a few voice recordings of Fallon Vendetta can be found. On a large number of the songs, rapped passages outweigh the sung parts, but most of them focus on catchy choruses. A central theme of the album is above all overcoming difficult situations and negative feelings. These are both social and personal in nature; Lovesickness , racism , rumors , corruption and personal attacks are all processed in the texts. There are also several songs that celebrate sexuality .

Cover design

The cover artwork to Hollywood Death Star shows in front of a black one from drawn, partially broken background bone shaped star . In the middle is the band name in Gothic script , and below that the album title in the style of the Hollywood Sign . Below him is a stylized record including a needle .
