Clubbed to Death! is an EP by the US band Blood on the Dance Floor . It was released on June 20, 2012.

background

Originally Clubbed to Death! a bonus CD which separately to the studio album (R) evolution came with when this on the site pre-ordered the group. One day after the official publication of the main work, the EP was offered for free download on the music project's official Facebook account before it was widely available in digital form.

After Blood on the Dance Floor celebrated unexpectedly great success with (R) Evolution and made it to number 42 in the US charts, the band was also marketed in Europe . All three titles from Clubbed to Death! the 9-track EP The Anthem of the Outcast to create the impression of a full-fledged studio album and physically released it on the European market. All three works were also included in the limited box set The Revolution Pack .

All tracks on the EP were produced by Rusty Wilmot , Stevie Blacke and Brandy Wynn , while the two band members Dahvie Vanity and Jayy von Monroe were responsible for the songwriting . Haley Rose appears as a guest interpreter and author on the theme song .

Music and lyrics

The three are on Clubbed to Death! The existing songs differ in content and style, but can all be assigned to electronic music .

The title track of the EP is divided into several segments. He starts with a 14-second Metalcore part, in which drums and electric guitar , as well as screaming vocals dominate. This is followed by a break in style and a 42-second long dramaturgical structure begins, in which only electronic instruments such as synthesizers and drum computers , as well as Haley Rose's voice, which consistently contain the words "Fame", "Sex", "Dance" and "Death" repeatedly used. After that the longest part follows the song, which takes a minute and 50 seconds about: over a pounding Euro Dance - Beat are Rapstrophen presented by Dahvie Vanity and Screamoparts of Jayy of Monroe. Thereafter, another genre change takes place: now rapping or screamen all three performers alternately a Dubstep - Instrumental . For the last few seconds the same Metalcore segment can be heard again as at the beginning. In terms of content, Clubbed to Death is a very aggressive and provocative track that uses coarse, sexual and brutal imagery. The own supporters are highlighted positively, while the band's opponents are insulted.

Deep Within , on the other hand, is a clearly conventional electro-pop song with dubstep elements. A chorus, clearly sung by Jayy von Monroe, and rapped verses, which are performed by Dahvie Vanity, alternate. The latter also sings the intro and outro . The two musicians can be heard alternately in the bridge , with Monroe singing screamo. The voices of both singers are partially alienated with autotune . What is striking about the text of the song is that the passages of the two musicians have no contextual relationship to one another. Von Monroe sings about a person with partly metaphorical formulations, with whom he has an emotional relationship, while Vanity's raps are mostly about parties , drugs and sex .

Where's My Wonderland !? represents the darkest, slowest and most melodic song on the EP, which is also closest to rock music . Powerful electric guitars accompany hard drum computers and a wobble bass ; a female voice and string instruments also give the title a symphonic touch. Both artists sing with a clear voice throughout. The text of the song is peppered with allusions to the well-known Lewis Carroll story Alice in Wonderland and is about a person who has lost himself and feels inner emptiness or emotional pain.

Cover design

The cover of Clubbed to Death! is animated and illustrated a fantasy figure who slams a man lying on the ground with a baseball bat studded with nails and his claw . The creature is drawn in the Kawaii style , has a blue face and pink fur, as well as purple bat wings , two small black horns and a pink tail . His head is adorned with a diamond and a cross of Peter is tattooed on his forehead . At its purple belly one is zipper attached. The only thing that can be seen of the victim of the violence is that she wears brown hair and a blue T-shirt and has tattoos on both arms. It lies in a large pool of blood ; moreover, more blood is splashing into the air or is on the bat. The background shows several triangles , the color of which runs downwards from pink to yellow . At the top of the picture is the band name in gold look ; it is stained with blood in places. In the lower area of the motif, the name of the EP can be seen in orange on the left, above the word "presents:" in small black. The three songs of the work are praised in dark yellow letters below. Above it can be read "Featuring" in white on the left .
