Blood Unplugged is the first unplugged album by the US band Blood on the Dance Floor . It was released on December 20, 2013.

backgrounds

Blood Unplugged contains acoustic versions of mostly well-known songs by the group, which were previously mostly electronic music . Unlike z. For example, with the famous MTV Unplugged album series, the newly recorded editions of the Blood on the Dance Floor songs are not live , but studio recordings. Of the thirteen titles, eleven were specially created for the compilation . The acoustic version of Unforgiven , however, was already available as a bonus track on the Deluxe Edition of (R) Evolution ; Don't Want to Be Like You can be found in the unchanged single and video version , which was also included on the EP The Anthem of the Outcast , on the album, as it already exclusively used acoustic instruments.

The title selection of the work includes songs from a total of five studio albums (no track from the debut album Let's Start a Riot! Got a revision) and three EPs. The song Time Machine is the only piece that was newly composed for the compilation. In addition to the digital edition, a CD from Blood Unplugged , limited to 1000 copies, was also available.

The entire album was produced by Rusty Wilmot . He only worked with Stevie Blacke and Brandy Wynn on Don't Want to Be Like You . Each of the songs was written by Dahvie Vanity , always supported by the respective vocal partner of the original version (either Jayy von Monroe , who also recorded the tracks on Blood Unplugged , or his predecessor Garrett Ecstasy ). On Bewitched additionally acted Lady Nogrady as a songwriter . This sang the song in the original version together with the band; after a falling out with Vanity between the two recordings, however, Haley Rose took over her part on the acoustic output.

Three singles were released from Blood Unplugged : Bewitched (Unplugged) , Believe (Unplugged) and Time Machine .

Music and lyrics

Acoustic guitars and strings are in the foreground of each individual title, and there are also additional instruments such as piano or music boxes . Several of the songs also contain background music from hand drums , tambourines and, if necessary, other rhythm instruments . All previously unpublished pieces were also completely sung by the two musicians: any screamo interludes were converted into clear vocals ; rapped passages only partially (in Sexting ! , for example, the first two stanzas were sung, while the third was rapped - in the original version, all three were rap). Also, unlike in some of the original recordings, there is no use of autotune or other voice effects. For this, both the instruments and the vocals are provided with a lot of reverb . Compared to the album versions, the pieces sound more minimalist and melodic in almost all cases ; the compilation also has a more uniform sound image than was the case with the studio albums due to the always identical selection of instruments.

In terms of content, however, the themes of the songs are very broad. They range from seriously performed love ballads to songs about self-doubt and inner emptiness to frivolous novelty songs about pirates . Every now and then there are slight changes to the original lyrics, which only make up a tiny part of the songs (for example “You took all your love and wasted it” instead of “Took your love and wasted all of it” in Unforgiven , or that Missing of the word “fucking” in the sentence “So when I take this razor to your neck, I cut out all your fucking regrets” on Death To Your Heart! Despite other use of the strong expressions).

Cover design

The cover of Blood Unplugged shows the two band members from the waist up in front of a wall made of red tiles , which becomes a grille at the top . Dahvie Vanity is noticeably made up , has red hair and a checkered vest of the same color , including a black and white shirt and cracked jeans . He is holding a black acoustic guitar in his hand . In comparison, Jayy from Monroe has no make-up, or only subtle make-up, and wears a white shirt and gray trousers with suspenders . At the top of the picture on the left is the band name with a black border and the album title on the right in a silver look with a red border. There is a red plus sign between the two words and two red, stylized bats above it .
