Bewitched is a song by the US band Blood on the Dance Floor from 2011, which they recorded together with the singer Lady Nogrady . The sixth single from their fourth studio album All the Rage !! was written jointly by all participating artists and produced by Rusty Wilmot and James Egbert .

background

The work on Bewitched was characterized by a tension between the Blood on the Dance Floor singer Dahvie Vanity and the guest musician Lady Nogrady. According to the singer, the artist only viewed them as a means to an end and used them to complete his project. In their view, he behaved disrespectfully and impolite and, given the anti- bullying messages that the band was using in their music at the time of publication, displayed a strong double standard . On the day the single was released, there was originally no mention that it was a collaboration ; only the main interpreter was given. Nogrady was only mentioned as an official feature at the request of her manager ; Vanity stated that she had simply forgotten it, which the singer did not buy from him. She also mentioned that she has since been given negative nicknames by the band, and compared both members with the title character of the novel Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde .

Music and lyrics

Bewitched is a classic pop song from the early 2010s . Initially, an approximately 22-second sound intro in which only with a lot of Hall provided keyboard sounds are heard in female, evil laugh and a deep bass lead. Only then does the main melody of the song begin in the form of bright, high- pitched bell tones , before the beat and vocals begin at the same time . The former is completely electronic and consists of several different synthesizers stacked on top of each other, as well as wobble bass , kick drums , hi-hats and claps . The first verse as well as the second half of the chorus are sung by Dahvie Vanity, the second verse by Lady Nogrady, with both giving background vocals in the parts of the other . Jayy from Monroe performs the first part of the chorus and the bridge. The lyrics of the song are about a woman who deliberately makes a man fall in love with her. In fact, she is only interested in entertaining pleasure, so she drops her lover after having fun with him. The latter remains heartbroken as he is still so drawn to his former lover as if she had put a spell on him, even though he is aware of her cold-blooded approach. However, he later decides to close the chapter, noting that the time has come to regain his heart and strength. He now recognizes the true character of the woman for whom he once felt love and wishes her to go to hell .

Music video

At the beginning of the music video for Bewitched you can see how a demon played by Jayy von Monroe puts a heart-shaped necklace on a woman played by Lady Nogrady during a ritual , which begins to glow. There is a time jump. The woman enters into a romantic relationship with a man portrayed by Dahvie Vanity - as it turns out, on behalf of the demon to get to his heart. The couple can be seen swimming , at an amusement park, and having sex together . As the two of them drive to camping , Monroe appears at night and demands Nogrady to finish the work. However, she refuses because she has actually fallen in love with Vanity. In order to provide her client with a replacement and spare her boyfriend, she goes to a nearby trailer and seduces the owner to sleep with her, only to steal his heart instead. As she wields the spell that separates the organ from the body, her chain lights up brightly, which awakens Vanity who follows the light. He catches the two of them red-handed , whereupon the magic is interrupted and the rival draws a pistol . Nogrady begs the man not to shoot her lover. When Vanity reaches into his pocket, however, he fires, assuming that her boyfriend wants to draw a gun too. Vanity is dying on the spot, and it turns out that he reached in his pocket for an engagement ring . Now the demon appears and grabs his heart while Nogrady mourns her lover and picks up the ring. In the last shot, Vanity is attending the same ritual that the young woman participated in at the beginning. Between the action, all three performers sing in extravagant clothes in front of a psychedelic , colorful background.

success

Although Bewitched could not prove itself in the charts worldwide, with over 24 million views it is by far the most clicked song of the group on YouTube (it was the only one to reach an eight-digit number) and is their best-known title.

Unplugged version

On the unplugged album Blood Unplugged , which was released in 2013, there is an acoustic version of the title, which was recorded exclusively with non-electronic instruments , including mainly guitars , strings , mallets and hand drums . Due to the falling out with Lady Nogrady, she did not return to sing her parts again. Instead, Haley Rose was hired as the female lead vocalist . This version of the song was also released as a single on October 17, 2013.
