Location of Ciudad Bolívar

Ciudad Bolívar is the 19th district ( localidad ) in the southwestern part of the Colombian capital city of Bogotá . With an area of 12,998.58 hectares (3,433 hectares of urban areas; 9,555 hectares of rural areas) it is the third largest district of Bogotá in terms of area with around 713,764 inhabitants. The municipality of Ciudad Bolívar was founded in 1983 because there had been land occupations in the south of the city of Bogotá. So the city administration tried to defuse the conflict.

ghetto

Ciudad Bolívar, a district marked by violence, crime, drugs and a lack of prospects, is one of 20 administrative districts in Bogotá. Here and in the neighboring districts of Soacha and Usme , more than a third of the seven million Bogotans live in hundreds of slums. It is the part of the city that is not mentioned in travel guides and is rarely visited by foreign tourists, but also by members of the local middle class. While most of the Ciudad Bolívar district is rural, the urban part consists of one of the largest mega-slums in the world. In the urban area it concentrates the poorest population of Bogotá. It is known for its high level of violence and a high level of activity by gangs and the mafia .

TransMiCable

The TransMiCable cable car has been in operation since December 2018 , and has four stations that better connect the outer district of Ciudad Bolívar and San Cristóbal with the center. During the construction work at the beginning of July 2017, ancient pre-Columbian graves with several skeletons were found.

Culture

The cultural dynamics of the urban district is characterized by its diversity, which reflects its social and multicultural composition. The cultural offer includes a large number of conference rooms for training and promoting the population. The possibilities range from festivals to artistic education, training courses, conferences and research projects on cultural heritage.
