Clark Bishop (born March 29, 1996 in St. John's , Newfoundland and Labrador ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL) since April 2016 and for their farm team , the Charlotte Checkers , plays in the American Hockey League (AHL) on the position of the center . Bishop was selected 127th in the fifth round by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft .

Career

Bishop played early in his career for the Avalon Minor Hockey and later for the St. John's Pennecon Privateers , before moving to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ) in 2012 . During his four years with the Screaming Eagles, he played 216 games - including 14 playoff games - scoring 64 goals and assisting 77 others. He served as team captain in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 game years .

On April 4, 2016, Bishop signed a three-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL). He spent the next two seasons mostly in the American Hockey League with the Carolinas farm team , the Charlotte Checkers . The rookie also collected minutes of action at the Florida Everblades in the ECHL . On October 17, 2018, Bishop was appointed to the NHL roster of the Hurricanes for the first time and made his NHL debut on October 20 in a 3-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche . On October 23, Bishop was transferred to the Checkers. On November 29, he was recalled to the NHL after Haydn Fleury was placed on the Injured Reserve List . On December 7th, he scored his first NHL goal in a 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks . On December 16, Bishop was again transferred to the Charlotte Checkers, with whom he won the Calder Cup at the end of the season.

International

Bishop was part of the Canadian U18 national team that won the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 in the Slovak cities of Břeclav and Piešťany . In the same year he represented the Canada Atlantic provincial team at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2013 in Victoriaville and Drummondville in the province of Québec . He also won the bronze medal at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2014 .
