Colin Peter Greening (* 9. March 1986 in St. John's , Newfoundland ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 2003 to 2018 among other 303 games for the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League on has contested the position of the left winger . In addition, Greening played over 380 other games in the American Hockey League , where he won the Calder Cup in 2011 with the Binghamton Senators and in 2018 with the Toronto Marlies .
Career
Greening was initially active from 2002 to 2003 for the St. John's Maple Leafs Midget AAA from the lower class Canadian junior league Newfoundland & Labrador Major Midget Hockey League . The following two years he was on the ice for the ice hockey team of the Toronto private school Upper Canada College and came for this in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association to a total of 87 missions, in which the left-handed shooter posted 119 points . He was then selected by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 204th position . The 2005/06 season the striker spent with the Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Hockey League . Greening finished his only season in the dress of the Clippers as the second-best points collector of the regular season behind top scorer Blair Riley and scored 62 points in 56 games of the regular season. Greening then continued his career with a degree at Cornell University and played for their ice hockey team, the Big Red , in ECAC Hockey for a total of four years . There he ran at times in a series of attacks together with the later NHL player Riley Nash on the ice. After an attractive rookie season , in which he had the best plus / minus balance within the team , he ran on the ice with Doug Krantz as the team's assistant captain the following season . He finished the 2007/08 season with 33 points in 36 games and was the Cornell Big Red's most successful point collector . These excellent achievements were recognized with the first nomination to the Second All-Star Team of the ECAC. The Canadian also succeeded in doing the same in the following two seasons. In his last two seasons in the Cornell University jersey, Greening played a crucial role in the team and acted as their team captain . The 2009/10 season was also crowned with the championship win of the ECAC; in the decisive game, the team prevailed against Union College . In April 2010, the offensive player signed a one-year entry contract with the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League .
At the following season 2010/11 he made his debut for the AHL - farm team , the Binghamton Senators , on a professional level. By the end of the season, he was in a total of 82 AHL games for the Senators on the ice and contributed 45 points to the Calder Cup win of the Binghamton Senators. Greening played his first NHL game in the same season - on February 1, 2011 in the away game with the New Jersey Devils - and scored his first goal in his eighth NHL appearance on March 3, 2011 against the Atlanta Thrashers . In May 2011, the Canadian signed a new three-year contract - a one-way contract - with the Ottawa Senators Organization. In the course of the 2011/12 season, the striker earned a regular place in the NHL squad of the capital city and also took part in the NHL All-Star Game SuperSkills Competition of the best rookies in January 2012 . The regular season 2011/12 ended the left-handed shooter, who had accumulated in all 82 games of the regular season, with 37 points scorer.
In February 2016, Greening moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a nine-player swap deal that brought Dion Phaneuf to Ottawa, among others , where he is also used in parallel with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL. With these he won the Calder Cup at the end of the 2017/18 season . He then signed a one-year contract with the team in June 2018, which was limited to the AHL only, after which he retired from active sport at the age of 33.
