Colten Teubert (born March 8, 1990 in White Rock , British Columbia ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey player who was active in Germany with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Colten Teubert began playing ice hockey near his hometown of White Rock . From 1995 to 2005 he was active in the local youth program of the Semiahmoo Ravens. He was considered a promising talent at an early age, so that he was selected as the first overall by the Regina Pats in the WHL Bantam Draft in 2005 . Teubert initially stayed in British Columbia and played for the Vancouver South West Hawks. He made his debut in the Western Hockey League towards the end of the 2005–06 season , playing 14 regular season games and six in the playoffs . From the 2006/07 season he played permanently for the Regina Pats and developed into one of the best young defenders in Canada. In addition to his defensive performance, Teubert was also able to improve offensively from year to year. Together with striker Jordan Eberle , he shaped the game of the Pats during this time. In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the first round in 13th place by the Los Angeles Kings , Eberle followed in 22nd place. After participating in the Kings training camp, Teubert returned to the WHL. With the Pats, he missed qualifying for the playoffs for the first time. Therefore, he made his professional debut in the ECHL for the Ontario Reign at the end of the 2008/09 season and completed 14 games. After he was assistant captain of his team last year , Teubert was named team captain of the Pats in his last WHL season. He scored 40 scorer points for the first time and was named the best defender of his team, but again missed the WHL playoffs and played again briefly in the ECHL at the end of the season.
For the 2010/11 season , Teubert's Entry Level Contract came into effect with the Kings, which he had already signed in August 2008. He missed the training camp in Los Angeles almost completely due to a hand injury and therefore began the season on the farm team Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League . On February 28, 2011 Teubert was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers together with a first-round draft pick and a third-round draft pick for Dustin Penner . So he played the rest of the season for the Oklahoma City Barons , the Oilers' farm team. He also played for the Barons at the beginning of the 2011/12 season. On November 2, 2011, Teubert was called to the roster of the Oilers and made his debut in the National Hockey League a day later , coincidentally against his former team from Los Angeles. In a total of three appointments to the NHL squad, he came to 24 games in the season and booked an assist. While his performance in the AHL was positively rated, Teubert could not completely convince in his NHL games. After being restricted by some injuries last year, he remained injury-free in the 2012/13 season. Nevertheless, Teubert could not convince in terms of performance and was not always in the AHL roster of the Barons. After his contract expired, it was initially unclear how the Oilers planned with him. Due to his performance and with other upcoming talents in hand, the Oilers decided not to make a new offer to Teubert in July 2013.
For the 2013/14 season, Teubert moved to Germany to the Iserlohn Roosters . He stayed there until the end of the 2015/16 season. In April 2016 he signed a three-year contract with another club in the German Ice Hockey League , the Nürnberg Ice Tigers . Due to a herniated disc, he fell out from January 2017. In the course of 2018 he retired from his career and took over as a coach for the Surrey Eagles in October 2018 .
Teubert has been the coach of the Bellingham Blazers from the Western States Hockey League since July 2019 .
International
For Canada , Teubert took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2008 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2009 and 2010 . He was U18 and U20 world champion once and also won the silver medal with the U20 national team in 2010.
Personal
Due to the excellent performance at the U20 World Championships as a player of the Regina Pats, the mayor of Regina Pat Fiacco declared January 8th, 2010 " Jordan Eberle and Colten Teubert Day".
Teubert has three brothers, is married and has a son and a daughter. Teubert's father emigrated from Germany to Canada. In the off-season he lives in the city of Blaine in Washington State , which is only six kilometers from his Canadian hometown of White Rock .
