Conrad Justus Bredenkamp

Conrad Justus Bredenkamp ; and Konrad Justus Bredenkamp (* 26. June 1847 in Basbeck at Stade ; † 25. March 1904 in Bremerhaven ) was a German Protestant theologian and university teachers .

Life

Conrad Justus Bredenkamp was the son of pastor Gustav Bredenkamp (born September 2, 1811 in Bremen ; † February 22, 1850 in Basbeck) and his wife Amalie Sophie Louise (born April 20, 1822 in Lilienthal ; † February 19, 1898 in Dresden ) , a daughter of Christoph Ludwig von Hanfstengel (1790–1857), pastor in Hechthausen , Lilienthal and Lesum . His sister was Margarete Henriette Bredenkamp (born January 8, 1846 in Basbeck; † unknown), married to Cornelius Gustav Carl Christoph von Hanfstengel (1844–1931), superintendent in Osten (Oste) and Wulsdorf . He grew up in Mustin (near Ratzeburg) with his stepfather, the pastor Christian Hermann Hanewinckel (1817–1898).

Conrad Justus Bredenkamp attended grammar school in Ratzeburg from 1862 to 1866 and enrolled at the University of Bonn to study theology in 1866 . In the spring of 1870 he completed his first theological exam in Ratzeburg ; in the same year he became a private school teacher in Hagenow and in the following year a teacher at the secondary school for girls in Schwerin . In the fall of 1872 he passed his second theological exam and on November 17, 1872 was pastor at the village church Kuppentin .

In 1878 he stayed on to study at the University of Göttingen and the University of Erlangen , whereupon on April 5 he became a repetitor and private lecturer for Old Testament theology in Erlangen .

He attained on February 21, 1880 his licentiate and on February 25, 1880 habilitation he did to Dr. theol. at the University of Erlangen. On April 1, 1883 he was appointed full professor of the Old Testament at the University of Greifswald . Due to illness, he was retired again in 1889 . On May 6, 1889 he became honorary professor for the Old Testament at the University of Kiel , where he was already on leave in 1892 because of his illness.

Conrad Justus Bredenkamp was married twice.
