Courcouronnes is a town and a former French commune with 13,490 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France . It belonged to the Arrondissement Evry and Canton Evry . The inhabitants are called Courcouronnais .
With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Évry and Courcouronnes were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Évry-Courcouronnes and have the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative headquarters are located in Évry.
geography
Courcouronnes is located in the Hurepoix landscape . In the north the town is bounded by Ris-Orangis , in the northeast and east by Evry , in the southeast and south by Lisses and in the west and southwest Bondoufle .
history
Courcouronnes has been proven to exist as early as the 10th century. The relics of the Breton Saint Gwenaël were kept here. In 1191 the first church was built near the road to Versailles .
With the establishment of the planned town of Évry in the 1960s, there was also a delay in a surge of residents in Courcouronnes. The place also gained importance with the establishment of Arianespace .
