Craig S. Morford (born September 10, 1959 ) is an American lawyer who was temporarily acting US Attorney General .

Life

After attending school, Morford first studied economics at Hope College and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Economics). He then completed a postgraduate degree in law at the Law School of Valparaiso University in 1984 with a Juris Doctor (JD).

After he followed almost twenty years as a lawyer worked, he moved in 2003 to the US Department of Justice and was initially special adviser to Attorney General John Ashcroft . He then served as US Attorney for Detroit between 2004 and 2005 , before serving as first Deputy US Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio .

During that time, he also led the team that successfully defended prosecution against James Traficant , an expelled member of the Ohio House of Representatives who was investigated into extortion , bribery , obstruction of justice and tax evasion in 2001. He also wrote the Morford Report, named after him, about the so-called Detroit Sleeper Cell , a group of men living in Detroit who were accused of an attack on the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim , California .

When there were several dismissals of US attorneys in December 2006, he again temporarily took over the office of US attorney of Central Tennessee . After Paul McNulty's resignation , he was appointed acting US Deputy Attorney General in May 2007, and he was appointed Acting Deputy Attorney General of the United States.

After completing this position, he moved to the private sector in March 2008. Since then he has been chief legal advisor and general representative for compliance with the rules of conduct of the pharmaceutical company Cardinal Health .
