Edward C. Schmults

Edward C. Schmults (born February 6, 1931 in Paterson , New Jersey ) is a former US attorney and business manager who was, among other things, Deputy US Attorney General .

Life

After attending school, Schmults first studied at Yale University , where he earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in 1953 . He then completed a law degree at the Law School of Harvard University and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). After his subsequent lawyer's approval in New York he was only 1958-1965 Staff Attorney at the law firm White & Case , a law firm with 1,900 attorneys and today headquartered in New York Citybefore he was a partner in this law firm between 1965 and 1973.

In 1973 he entered the government service and was first chief legal advisor at the US Treasury Department and then from July 1974 to October 1975 there under-secretary . During this time he also received the Alexander Hamilton Prize , the Treasury's highest honor.

He then served as Assistant Legal Advisor to President Gerald Ford at the White House Chief of Staff between October 1975 and January 1977 .

After President Jimmy Carter took office , he returned to White & Case as a partner in 1977 , before serving as US Deputy Attorney General in the government of President Ronald Reagan from February 1981 to 1984 . In January 1984 he resigned from this office.

Schmults then moved to the private sector and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Financing Bank, the Securities Investors Protection Corporation as well as a member of the New York City Bar Association in 1974 the United States Railway Association. He was also involved in the Council on Foreign Relations .
